Video Games I Enjoy - Abzu
Abzu, a game with the same art director as Journey (one of my all time favorites), is a game I return to sometimes when I’m looking for inspiration for my art.
It's a game where you swim around in aquatic landscapes, through ancient ruins, all with a story unfolding along the way.
It's a beautiful example of a video game where the art has a solid grounding in realism, all based on real life sea creatures, however it’s stylized beautifully with lighting that brings so much life to each underwater scene. The simple shapes, along with the vibrant colors, are really a treat to look at.
Each section of the game is unique with its own species, color schemes, discoveries to find, and obstacles to overcome.
There are places in the game to meditate and view each critter in the area.
In sections where you're going through underwater temples, you'll also find murals depicting ancient history in the game’s universe. I love the style in which they're illustrated, and I love that the little headlamp your character has illuminates them so you can see all of the details!
If you're looking for a more relaxing game (though the story amps up a bit towards the end!), this is a great one to pick up.
